I was under the impressive that the word mandatory was removed from the final bill because of public pressure. Of course they couldn't pass it if it was mandatory, because there are people who love this country enough to pay attention to what congress still does instead of watching American Idol every night.

The idea that we must not love America because we are worried about what Washington does is juvenile.

It's because of people who pay attention that you still have the civil liberties and freedom that you do.That allow people to have blogs, and you to post a comment accusing us of hating America.

We are all in this together. If we lose our freedom you lose yours too.

The whole "mandatory" part is not part of the bill as it would be passed into law anyway. Take the time to inform yourselves before you get too carried away. Read below. The "mandatory" part is for consideration of feasability. Of course, it is not feasable, and will not be part of the final bill if these people are interested in re-election. What is it that you are worried about? Are you guys racist? Or just obstinant? Are you sad that the fascists lost the election? What is the problem? Do you hate Arabs? Or just Muslims? How do people live with themselves when they pen up this kind of skepticism and obvious resentment?

(b) Specific Topics- In carrying out its general purpose under subsection (a), the Commission shall address and analyze the following specific topics:

(1) The level of understanding about the current Federal, State, and local volunteer programs and opportunities for service among individuals in the United States.

(2) The issues that deter volunteerism and national service, particularly among young people, and how the identified issues can be overcome.

(3) Whether there is an appropriate role for Federal, State, and local governments in overcoming the issues that deter volunteerism and national service and, if appropriate, how to expand the relationships and partnerships between different levels of government in promoting volunteerism and national service.

(4) Whether existing databases are effective in matching community needs to would-be volunteers and service providers.

(5) The effect on the Nation, on those who serve, and on the families of those who serve, if all individuals in the United States were expected to perform national service or were required to perform a certain amount of national service.

(6) Whether a workable, fair, and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people could be developed, and how such a requirement could be implemented in a manner that would strengthen the social fabric of the Nation and overcome civic challenges by bringing together people from diverse economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds.

I'm not as concerned about the word "mandatory" as I am about the words "workable, fair, and reasonable". Who do these people think they are? Obviously not socialists. Because if they were, then they would just pass the bill, Obama would sign it, and the words "workable, fair, and reasonable" would never come into play. Get over it. If you no longer love this country, then get the hell out. Go to Mexico, for instance. Or Honduras. Or Russia. I hear they got it goin' on over there, so go.

Brilliant. Protest taxes right AFTER a Democrat passed the largest middle-class tax cut in American history. Protest spending AFTER Regan's quadrupling of the debt and Bush's doubling of it, and AFTER the economy has fallen apart on a Republican's watch. Then claim that the Dems deserve ALL the blame!?
If these protesters were such staunch fiscal conservatives, why have they waited until NOW to protest? For decades I've encouraged Republican protests of ALL out-of-control spending, but fiscal conservatives lost control of the Republican party in the 60s. The people protesting now are pure party-line Republicans, too cowardly to protest against tax-and-spend Democrats AND Republicans. What's the point of taking action now that any chance at effective protest is GONE?
P.S. The Boston tea party was the beginning of the revolution that gave us our democracy. Didn't anyone realize that calling this a tea party would come off as being a revolution AGAINST democracy. Again, brilliant.

United Socialist States of America?

So much for transparency in this administration. There is none. There is only the soundbites that are giving you that twitch.

A soundbite from Rahm Emanuel should make you twitch.

A soundbite from Barack Obama should make you twitch more.

It was Obama who abstained from voting when they took a pre-election survey on mandatory service. It was McCain who said voluntary was the only way to go.

The moral of the story is, anytime you see Obama soundbites or abstaining from voting, you can expect the worst, and rightly so. He's been proving the entire quarter he's been in office.

Obama knows none of this is popular with the American people. The fact that he goes ahead and does it anyway, ignoring all the protests and continued protests, proves he doesn't give a hoot what we think.

It really doesn't matter. This is unconstitutional and will never stand up in court. Start fighting back and recall all his peons until the rest of them start getting a loud and clear message, because this nonsense is not going to happen in this country whether he likes it or not.

I agree that something has to be done to take back our wonderful country. I agree that we ALL need to band together....Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, Independents, white, black, brown, etc.......this is not about Republicans vs. Democrats. This is about WE THE PEOPLE of this United States of America, holding the elected officials accountable for not doing what they were elected to do, and for slowly destroying our nation. My problem is, as wonderful an idea as I think the New American Tea Party is, I am not sure it will do much good. The bums in office will not listen to us. All they care about is their own wretched hides. Sure, they will know the people are sick and tired of what is going on, but what can really be done about it? All we can do is to wait and vote them out of office in 2010. If someone can tell me otherwise, or that the corrupt politicians will listen to the people and the NATP, I would love to know about it. I love this country and I HATE what is happening here, and I certainly dont want to sound like a pessimist, because I believe in the American people. I just dont know how much of an impact the Tea Parties will have. What do the bums in DC care if a few thousand people protest? They know they are still in office.
